ABOUT
POMME D’OR
The meaning behind the name
Pomme d’Or (pronounced Pom-Dor) is French for “Golden Apple” – literally, “Apple of Gold”.
The name holds deep personal significance. It was the name of the greengrocer’s shop owned by my grandparents, Myra and Douglas, in Woodford Green, London, and the place where I was born, in the accommodation above the shop.
The golden apple has long symbolised something precious and enduring. For me, it represents heritage, family, and the quiet strength of small beginnings.
That story remains at the heart of Pomme d’Or today.
A creative journey
Pomme d’Or was founded in 2014 after I left a long career in the financial industry to pursue something more creative and hands-on.
What began as a love of thoughtful gifting gradually evolved. Over time, I found myself drawn less to fragrance and formulation, and more to texture, embellishment, and the beauty of intricate detail.
The creative focus shifted – slowly, naturally – towards pieces that could be kept, reused and treasured.
The craft today
Today, Pomme d’Or centres on hand-embellished bags created in small quantities.
Each piece is carefully composed using appliqués, trims, lace and delicate detailing. No two are entirely identical. They are designed not as fast accessories, but as keepsakes – bags to be reached for, admired, and kept for years.
The work is slow and intentional. That is part of the joy.
A small, family-rooted business
While the focus of the collection has evolved over time, the foundation remains the same: a small, family-rooted business built with care.
Pomme d’Or continues to grow gently, guided by creativity, craftsmanship and a belief in making things beautifully and meaningfully.
